How to setup family sharing

Setup of Family Sharing is a simple easy to follow process and is similar on both Android and iOS. Family Sharing allows more than one device to be connected to the same family account with a single paying subscription.
Family sharing is great for all parenting situations including co-parenting, nannies, grandparents and for families that would like to all be on the same page when it comes to understanding the ups and downs of their partners parenting day.

Setting up Family Sharing on iPhone & iPad (iOS)

  1. You will need a Thumsters subscription on at one of the devices. Setting up a Subscription is easy and options to create a subscription either on a monthly or yearly basis can be found on any of the screens that are only available to subscribers such as the Detailed Reports screen or by going to  Settings > Setup a Family Subscription
  2. On the primary device that owns the subscription go the Settings section.
  3. Select Connect another device
  4. A five character code will be displayed on the screen. This is your share code.  It lasts for 15 mins and is case sensitive. Keep this screen open and share the code with the person who you want to connect to your Thumsters Family.
  5. On the device you would like to connect, they will only need a free thumsters account and will not need a paid subscription to join your family.
  6. If it is the first time they have logged into the app and created an account they will see the option to Join     existing family.  Select this.  If it is not the first time they have used Thumsters go to Settings and select Join a family
  7. The Connect screen requires you to enter a friendly name that the other user will recognise and the the share code that was generated in step 4. This code is case sensitive so it is important that it is entered exactly as displayed. As soon as a code is entered the connection process will begin automatically.
  8. One the main subscribing device they should now see a prompt to accept the connection. Once accepted the sharing process will be complete and the other device should now be connected. You can confirm this on the connecting device by going to the My Kids screen where you should see all the children from the subscribers account.

All devices in the family group will now have all the benefits of the subscription.

Setting up Family Sharing on Android

  1. You will need a Thumsters subscription on at one of the devices. Can I connect an iPhone to Android subscription or vice versa?

Yes! This is possible. Follow steps 1-4 on the respective instructions above on the main subscribing device. And on the connecting device follow steps 5-8 on the respective instructions above.
